Welcome to Lisbon
Announcement
Operator algebras are presently one of the dynamic areas of mathematics. Nowadays Operator Algebras and Operator Theory play an important role in different areas of Mathematics and its Applications, particularly in Mathematical Physics and Numerical Analysis.
This event is being organized at Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, Portugal and it will be held from September 1 to September 5, 2006. It consists of a summer school with short courses on Operator Algebras and its Applications to Mathematical Physics and Numerical Analysis, and a workshop that will bring together researchers in the Operator Algebras and Operator Theory areas.
Summer School
The short courses consist of three sessions, covering the following topics:
- Subalgebras of Graph C*-Algebras
Stephen Power, Lancaster University - C*-Algebras – Selected Topics
Konrad Schmüdgen, Leipzig University - C*-Algebras and Asymptotic Spectral Theory
Bernd Silbermann, Chemmitz University - Toeplitz Operator Algebras and Multivariable Complex Analysis
Harald Upmeier, Marburg University
Workshop
The main topics of the workshop include:
- Crossed product C*-algebras. C*-algebras of operators on Hardy and Bergman spaces. Invertibility theory for non-local C*-algebras. Von Neumann algebras.
- Approximate methods in operator algebras. Asymptotic properties of approximation operators.
- Toeplitz, Hankel, and convolution type operators and algebras. Symbol calculi. Invertibility and index theory.
- Operator Theoretical Methods in Diffraction Theory. Factorization Theory and Integrable Systems. Applications to Mathematical Physics.
Invited speakers will present a survey of the state of the art on some of these different topics. The event will provide an opportunity to exchange ideas and reinforce scientific contacts.
To stimulate the participation of students and young researchers in these fields of Mathematics a small number of scolarships will be available.
